Prof: C P Muhammad (Managing Director)

Prof. C. P. Muhammad graduated in mechanical engineering from the Kerala University in 1969 and took his Masters degree in Farm Power and Machinery from the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in 1980. He started his career as Assistant Lecturer in Mechanical engineering in 1970 and later became the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, in the Faculty of Engineering Of the erstwhile Rural Institute, Tavanur. which subsequently formed part Of the Kerala Agricultural University. In 1977 he was appointed as Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering). then as Associate Professor in 1982 and as Professor in 1984. He is the Head of the Department of Farm Power, Machinery & Energy of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology of KAU from 1985 till date except for the period of 6 years from 1989, during which he was working as the maintenance manager in a large mechanized farm in Saudi Arabia. till he joined back in 1995 on the request of Kerala Agricultural University. He is acting as the Dean, faculty of Agricultural Engineering and technology from October 2003. Prof. Muhammad has been awarded four Indian Patents tor his own inventions on Rotary Engine, Variable torque converter. a device to harness animal power and a Bicycle operated pump. In 1982. he was awarded assistance by the National Research Development Corporation of India for the development of his invention on rotary engines. His fields of interest include l.c. engine development, farm machinery development and renewable energy technology. He was the principal investigator for many projects in these areas. He has guided a number of master’s theses in Agricultural Engineering as chairman as well as member of advisory committee. He has published/presented around 40 papers in national and international journals/symposia

Dr. K. V. AHAMED BAVAPPA (Chief Adviser)

Dr.K.V.Ahamed Bavappa, MSc, Phd is the Chief Adviser to GCA. He was First Rank holder through out his studies & was selected to IAS, IFS & IARS (Indian Agriculturel Research Service) which which he finally chose. Even though he got Admission to Medical & Engineering, he chose Agriculture since his he was interested in mother Earth. Jai Kissan is his slogen.He was the founder Director of Centrel Plantations Research Station (CPCRI) of Indian Councial of Agricultural Search (ICAR) Govt. of India

K.V.A. Bavappa obtained PhD, (Genetics) of the Mysore University in 1972. He was FAO—es expert in Sri Lanka (1977 to 1982) and Chief Technical Advisor of FAO projects in Vietnam (1987 to 1991) and established Research Institution’s and Development Departments for spices, coconut and cashew in these countries. He was also consultant for project formulation and evaluation in Australia, Fiji, Indonesia. Jamaica, Maldives, Sirraleon, Tanzania and Thailand. He was invited resource person for various international conferences by FAO, World Bank. APCC. UNESCO and SABRAO. He could release ‘Mangala’ an early bearing high yielding variety or Arecanut, together with other high yielding varieties and hybrids (Sankara Kalpa) of coconut, pepper (Swarna Lanka — 10 of Sri Lanka) and selection 19 of Cashew in Vietnam. He guided PhD research. produced two video films on coconut and cashew cultivation and published 198 research articles and five books, viz. The Arecanut Palm (Central Plantation Crop Research Institute. Kasaragod: 1982); Plantation Crops (CPCRI, Kasaragod 1984) Coconut industry in Vietnam; Coconut industry in Indonesia (Asian & Pacific Coconut Community, Jakarta 1994, 1996); and Pakarangan Farming System of Indonesia (FAO 1995).

As first in the Madras university for the B.S.c (Ag) degree, he won five gold medals (1951); FAO Award for best project work (1982); Dr. CS Venkata Ram Memorial Award for best original research (1982, 1988), Platinum Jubilee Award (1991) and a Certificate of Honour of the Indian Society for Plantation Crops (1997). He was given the Achiever Award (2004) by the Indian Jaycees. He is also the recipient of the International Gold Star Millennium Award (2005) given by the World Economic Council. He is Fellow of the Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding (1975) and Indian Society for Plantation Crops (1992).
